How large are Instagram photos really?

Instagram shrinks every uploaded photo to a maximum of 1080 pixels wide and stores it as a JPG with noticeable compression. A square image therefore has 1080 × 1080 pixels, a portrait 1080 × 1350 and a landscape 1080 × 566 pixels. No downloader can deliver more resolution than this file – Nabbly included. Anyone seeing offers of “original resolution in 4K” should be sceptical.

From the variants Instagram keeps, Nabbly always selects the largest and saves it unchanged. The file contains no caption, no hashtags and no location data.

Notes on use

Profile pictures, story images and photos from private profiles are out of scope. Stories have their own page with the restrictions that apply there. If a carousel contains a great many images, creating the ZIP can take a few seconds; the progress is shown.

Photos are protected by copyright. Save your own images or ones whose photographer has permitted the use. If you want to reuse a photo, for example on your own website, you need the creator's consent and should credit them.
